Woody and the Rebel Alliance was formed in 2009 by front man Mike “Woody” Wood, in the Berkshire Hills of Massachusetts. He was then joined by the other core members of the band, Michael Wood (Drums, no relation), Alan Taylor (Bass, Keys), and Wesley Childers (Lead guitar). The group was a staple of the Berkshire County music scene, hosting many events, parties, and open jams, under the name “Rebel Alliance”. Their music can be described as what the band likes to call, Reggae Inspired Jam Rock. The band is unafraid of not sticking to any specific genre, and writes songs in many different styles, with steady danceable groves, and a dash of rock and roll, topped with the fun and freedom of a jam band.

They gained critical acclaim in several regional and national competitions, including being a finalist in a world-wide battle of the bands for Hard Rock Cafe in 2013. They won the StrangeCreek Battle of the Bands 2012, which led them to playing festivals all over the Northeastern U.S. They have since gone on to open for such acts as Booker T and the MG’s, Black Uhuru, and recently opened and provided direct support as a backing band for Matisyahu.

They have released several works including an EP in 2013, which featured the fan favorite “Last Night I Shot the DJ”. They released their full studio length album in 2019 titled “Raise Your Soul”, which featured not only the title track for the album, but the critically acclaimed song “My Song”, which went on be named one of the top 200 songs ever to be written in New England by the New Music Alliance.

In 2022 and 2023, they released a series of singles that again, reiterated their love of bending genres in any way they desired. “Chores and Money” being an old vaudevillian swing tune about the perils of housekeeping and relationships, “Sunshine or Rain”, a ballad about the choices we make every day to be a negative or positive force in the world, and they even released a Christmas song called “Snowmen…. Sixpacks…” sung by Alan Taylor.

They are currently back in the studio, working on new music to release.
